This fall, we featured the music of the Dangerous Ponies, and we’re now beyond excited to spotlight the work of band member Sarah Green, the tambourine-shakin’, photo flickin’, all-around cool chick straight out of Philly.

In her long-running ANTI VOGUE photo series, Sarah is using her images to redefine our culture’s perception of beauty. We love it. You will too.

Check the concept:

“The ANTI VOGUE is a personal exploration of the perception of female beauty in America. To me the women in these photos defy the idea of beauty we find in our media saturated society and surpass it with something even greater. The following photos are a few from a large project that I hope will only grow larger.”

Visit Sarah Green’s site to see even more statement-making photographs. Check the Sarah Green Photo blog for a peek into her next project, a 2010 calender of people in drag.

As fate would have it, New York Post photographer Martha Cooper stumbled upon a young artist in the late ’70s who opened her eyes to a stunning new form of expression. What began as simple curiosity evolved into the extensive documentation of a global phenomenon. Here, Current TV user ThomasGreen tells the story of how Cooper’s lens captured the beginnings of graffiti writing and hip hop culture.

This year, Cooper and fellow collaborator, Henry Chalfant, celebrate the 25th anniversary of the bestseller, Subway Art, a book widely considered to be “the Bible of the graffiti movement.” Check out Cooper and Chalfant as they recount their experiences and discuss what to expect with the latest edition.
