The Uniform Project

Today marks Day #186 of The Uniform Project.

Since springtime, Sheena Matheiken has been on a mission to make a different kind of fashion statement. For 365 days, she will don the same little black dress designed by creative partner Eliza Starbuck, but will update and adorn her frock everyday with vintage accessories, flea market finds, and donations from Etsy designers and thoughtful readers.

The goal is raise money to help expand the Akanksha Foundation, a non-profit based in Mumbai that’s improving education and resources for children living in slums. The site also serves as an encyclopedia of inspiration on how to play with feathered hats, sustainable scarves and even electric blue boots.

My dear internet friend, Monihan Monihan, blasted a video introduction to this quirky web project that just might flip your understanding of how to incorporate philanthropy into your everyday wardrobe.

This would put an end to the proverbial question, “hummm, what will I wear today?” I agree, great idea. We really do spend wayyyyyyyy too much money on clothes. If we have 30 pairs of jeans, who can tell them apart, so what’s the use? Okay, let me get off my philosophy horse now. But it does go to show you, you can get by on very little – keeping it simple. Although, for real, I’d want more than one dress. I’ll take a balance between way too much and way too little.
